Testimonies:

I just wanted to congratulate our Project Roots team for a great help they have provided me through their Regional Coordinator for NY, Ms. Roula Eid.
I found Roula's phone number with one of my Church members and I called her; Roula went the extra mile to help me register my marriage and my kids; I had a small problem with the papers that I sent to the embassy and I called Roula; within one hour Roula was at the embassy fixing the problem. Great person, very helpful, polite, we (Lebanese) need more people like her.
Roula, GOD bless you! I thank you for all you have done.
Thanks,
Tony Ibrahim

I have two kids, one 7 and the other 5, both born in Washington DC. Since both kids were born I have wanted to register them as “Lebanese,” yet I was not sure about the process or how lengthy it may be or how much work it involved… So the years passed until a family friend got me in touch with Josephine Sfeir Bassil, PROJECT ROOTS’ Regional Coordinator for the DC Region.

Josephine got me to complete, by email, two simple applications, and she took it upon herself to work with the Lebanese embassy in Australia since my husband and I got married there.

She kept me updated from the start on the steps she was taking, forever patient and always replying to any questions raised.

Had it not been for Josephine, both of my kids would have, to date, not been registered as Lebanese.

Thank you so much for all the work you have done, Josephine!

My name is Wissam Bendoc Malouf, originally from Zahle, Lebanon.
My experience with Project Roots and Mr. Antoine Abi-Samra, the Regional Coordinator for Detroit, Michigan, was an excellent one. Mr. Abi-Samra came to my house and helped me with all of the paperwork needed for my 2 sons Nicholas and Christopher. Without his exceptional help, my children would not be registered in Lebanon now.
Sincerely yours,
Wissam Malouf

"... Patriarch Rai spoke of a plan to shore up Lebanon’s diminishing Christian population by seeking citizenship for those who have left the nation and for their children.
Project Roots is seeking people of Lebanese descent outside of Lebanon to register their marriages and the births of their children via its Web site...

'Lebanon is a unique country. Its whole social fabric hinges on a balance between Muslims and Christians,' he (Patriarch Rai) said. 'Christians and Muslims both declared that this country will not have a religion as such, but will respect all religions.' 'If the million Christians who have left Lebanon don’t register their marriages and offspring, this will be detrimental to the balance we are talking about,' he said. If Christians lose their political rights and freedom in that nation, he said, 'you will be responsible for this because you neglected to register your children. It’s not just the Christians of Lebanon who will lose, but the whole of Christianity in the Middle East. The creative formula of Lebanon as a nation where Christians and Muslims can live together . . . and work together will be lost, not only to Lebanon, but to the world.'”

We were extremely impressed by the warmth of St. Sharbel Maronite Church's priest and parish members. They were all enthusiastic about Project Roots; they were all eager to take our brochures and, in case they did not need them for their own families, pass them out to their friends and relatives and spread the word!
